The acai berry has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. Everyone is raving about it, even celebrities. They know that this super fruit contains extremely high levels of antioxidants, omega fatty acids, amino acids and fiber, all of which are essential for healthy living.
Antioxidants are essential because they help calm the free radicals that damage our bodies and cause premature aging. While our bodies do produce some antioxidants it’s simply not enough, so we need to be consuming foods that contain high levels of the disease-fighting nutrient.
Omega fatty acids help fight heart disease as well as help lower cholesterol. However, this important acid does much more by helping to build muscle and fight certain diseases that can affect the nervous system.
Amino acids are needed for strength, energy and muscle development. They help play and important role in burning fat. Amino acids are also essential for promoting healthier sleep by relaxing your muscles and your brain.
Fiber is important due to its ability to help aid in a healthy digestive system. Yet fiber may also help lower cholesterol and help lower the risk for acid reflux disease. And since fiber helps regulate the body, it may also help fight obesity.
So with as many wonderfully packed nutrients as this super fruit contains, it’s easy to see why so many people are raving about it. Yet some of us may be wondering why these powerful little berries aren’t available in whole at our local health food or grocery store. Well, that’s because they spoil in less than 24 hours after they are picked from their natural habitat.
Since the berries cannot be shipped, they are pressed and the pulp and its juice are turned into various health products. However, many of these products are not what they claim to be, so it’s up to the consumer to determine what is truly healthy.
For those of us who are interested in consuming the benefits of the acai berry, you’ll find it available in many forms. These include, juices, smoothies and even natural vitamins. Whichever form you choose; just remember that Mother Nature is always best!
